ADVANCED SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION
A few years ago, Apple realized that drivers were being distracted by their iPhones. They set out to develop an interface that would allow the driver to keep his or her hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road. Apple CarPlay uses the Siri voice recognition engine and software installed on your radio to understand voice commands. Google caught wind of this technology and created Android Auto to provide similar functionality from smartphones that run the Android operating system.
WHAT CAN APPLE CARPLAY AND ANDROID AUTO DO?
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it easy to answer incoming text messages, send short e-mails or make phone calls without having to scroll through your contacts or type on the screen. All you have to do is ask for what you want, and the system does the rest. You can listen to voice mail on your phone or hear your last SMS message from your best friend. Calling someone is just as easy. Thanks to the Internet connection on your smartphone, searching for restaurants, hotels, or gas stations is as easy as asking.
Both systems offer a variety of entertainment options. You can ask to listen to music on your phone by song title, artist name or album name. Streaming services like Apple Music, Google Play Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio and Tidal can provide endless entertainment options for your commute or road trip.
NAVIGATE SAFELY
Part of driving safely is knowing where you are going. Android Auto and CarPlay both offer turn-by-turn, GPS-based navigation solutions that make driving safer and more efficient. Maps are stored in the cloud, meaning you never have to buy updates and always have the latest information available.
You can choose destinations from your phone or by asking the system to search for an address, business name or landmark. Real-time traffic flow and accident information are integrated into both systems, so your route will be as efficient as possible.
